The Clinical Laboratory Support Clerk processes patient reports in order to provide timely distribution of information to clinicians.
The Clinical Laboratory Support Clerk also performs the registration, test ordering and accessioning functions in an efficient and timely manner so as to maximize laboratory output.
The Clinical Laboratory Support Clerk may also assist in Cytology, Histology, Blood Bank and the accession area of the lab.
The successul candidate must be organized and have strong communication skills.
Essenial Functions:
Performs the registration, test ordering and accessioning functions in an efficient and timely manner so as to maximize laboratory output.
Utilizes appropriate verbal communications skills when conversing with patients and other persons, both on the phone and in person, to convey a high level of personal attention and promote customer satisfaction.
Processes laboratory patient reports daily to provide timely distribution of patient information to clinicians.
Organizes, maintains and updates departmental files and records in an accurate manner to provide for timely and efficient retrieval of information.
Provides general clerical support for the laboratory staff as needed.
Assists Pathologist with frozen section procedure, including staining and cover slipping.
Cleans and preps gross room, and handles specimens for gross analysis.
Assists in Histology area numbering, registering, labeling and accessioning specimens, file slides and charge special stains.
Makes reagents when required; changes tissue processor, as needed; picks up OR/MSSU specimens; statistics; type procedures; pulls slides and blocks for pathologists, etc.
Assists in Cytology area registering, accessioning and labeling specimens, staining and covering slip slides, looking up histories, changing reagents daily, emptying/washing/filling racks weekly, setting up needle biopsy cart for pathologists, etc.
Assists Blood Bank area with manual charges, invoice accuracy, single donor platelet statistics, etc.
Performs all aspects in the accession room area of the lab, spins and processes specimens for analytical and reference testing, cleans and preps accession room for day shift check list, and is responsible for training of staff in accession room.
Qualifications EDUCATION AND
Experience:
High school diploma/GED required.
Phlebotomy experience preferred.
