The Addictions Counselor I shall work under the direct supervision of the Inpatient Director to provide counseling and related therapeutic services to clients of the medical detox unit.
The Counselor shall provide consultations, biopsychosocial evaluations, education/awareness, intervention and other treatment services to clients and/or their families.
JOB DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
Completes biopsychosocial evaluations and comprehensive treatment plans with assigned clients according to agency policy, OMSAS and DDAP standards.
Provides individual, group, family and other therapies within the philosophy and policies of the program.
Provides case management of a personal caseload as assigned by the Inpatient Director.
Develops aftercare plans for and with clients to facilitate their long-term recovery from addictions or dependence.
Facilitates counseling sessions with clients and/or family members according to established therapeutic practices and program policy.
Participates in program and treatment activities as a member of the treatment team, including participation in multidisciplinary rounds and staff meetings.
Completes all paperwork, client documentation, correspondence and progress notes and follow-up documents as part of the treatment process.
Participates in staff development activities to maintain certification and/or competence in the field.
PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to 6 hours per day, 1 hour at a time; standing for up to 2 hours per day, 1 hour at a time; walking for up to 2 hours per day, 20 minutes at a time.
Frequently uses hands and fingers to write, hold charts and turn pages, occasionally for grasping, twisting or turning.
Frequently uses upper extremities to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally squats, and reaches above shoulder level.
Hearing as it relates to normal conversation in person or by telephone.
Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
EDUCATION:
Licensed Social Worker, MSW, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Mental Health Professional with a Master's Degree in a human services related field required.
Must be eligible for licensure or PCB certification within two years of hire.
TRAINING AND
Experience:
Two years of clinical experience providing care to patients with Substance Use Disorders / Mental Illness.
Previous experience in discharge planning and case management models preferred.
